Are you married kids, pets, etc? -Married to the most wonderful man in the world and my best friend for 37 years! Blessed with 3 grown (and married) children and 5 grandchildren; 2 dogs!
Do you have any hobbies? - I taught exercise for over 20 years and enjoy all kinds of exercise; I love to read. My husband and I enjoy travelling and visiting our children who all live long-distance from us.
What made you decide to join your direct sales company? -My husband and I had subscribed to Southern Living magazine for over 30 years when I saw the words, "Southern Living at HOME" and KNEW they had begun a direct selling company. I was in the process of looking for a way to earn some additional income and was certain that whatever Southern Living did would be fabulous; I've never been so right!
How long have you been in business? - I began with SLAH in the spring of 2003, so it's been 6 and 1/2 years now!
What do you like best about the company? - Wow! I don't think I can choose just one thing! One of the most important things, though, is that I am privileged to represent such gorgeous, versatile pieces with amazing quality and value. We have the best corporate staff anywhere and they truly vlaue us, as consultants. The women in our company are generous, supportive, warm and gifted; it is an honor to be a part of this special company.
What has been your biggest challenge? I've had a couple, but in the beginning, it was in learning that I WAS my business and needed to take it with me everywhere. It was also difficult to begin, as I didn't know a soul when we first moved here and I got into the business. One really difficult time in my business life was when I had my second total hip replacement, but kept my business going while in a hospital bed for 6 weeks!
What has been your greatest strength? -
I think it's my love of people and my positive attitude. Problems will always arise, but my glass is definitely always half FULL!

Problems will always arise, but my glass is definitely always half FULL!What has been your biggest achievement? - The evening I first earned the level of Director was very special and just this past June I was in the top 10 in sales in the nation for our company; that felt pretty good!
What advice would you give women starting out in home business? - Love what you are selling ~ this mean both your product AND your company! Enlist the support of your spouse and your family. Think of your business LIKE a business - or you won't have one! You are the one who is going to make it happen -or not. Set weekly and monthly goals for yourself because you are your own boss. Set those goals and do whatever it takes to meet them. Believe that you can do it - because you CAN!
How do you balance work and family? - I have office hours and try to stick with those. I also plan for family, church and me time. That's important. When the phone rings at dinner time, the answering machine will do just fine until I can retrieve the message!
How do you promote your business both offline and online? - I have a company-provided website, which costs only a little more than $100 per year; our catalog is available there in a page-through version. We can take orders online and have a Direct Ship option, as well. I take catalogs, hostess packets and business infomation packets in my car everywhere I go. I also give SLAH gifts and donate items for raffles and fundraisers. I do selected vendor events and advertise with a few work at home websites. And I party 6-8 times every month!
What are your business goals for 2010? My goal for 2010 is to continue to party 8 times each month and to sponsor 1-2 new consultants each month. Additionally, I am identifying leaders within our group and working with them to promote out new Director teams; I'd like to promote out 2 new Directors in 2010. I will also earn our general incentive trip for my husband and me and take us to Atlantis in the Bahamas!!!
